CRANBOURNE Secondary College arts, science and technology students are celebrating the news their school is about to get an extensive refit, expected to cost about $12 million.

Both the State Government and the Opposition have promised the refit will be carried out from the beginning of next year, irrespective of the outcome of the Victorian elections in November.

Assistant principal George Massouris said the reconstruction of the area known as the middle school – its science, art and technology block – would benefit all students across year levels, and particularly those now in year 9.

“They will have access to these state-of-the-art areas when they need them most, when they are in years 11 and 12,” Mr Massouris said.

“It will make an enormous difference to the experiences we will be able to give them as they prepare for VCE and tertiary education.”

Yon Andelman, 15, wants to be a lawyer and will study psychology in his senior years. “Those classes are in the science area. I’d have taken them anyway, but it will be a lot better with the refit,” he said.

Shan Aguila, 15, has her sights on graphic design. “It will be a lot easier for me to work in a less cramped classroom and I don’t think any of us will miss the cracked floors and dust,” she said.

James Callus, 14, said he wanted to be a diesel mechanic and the new metalwork shop would be great.

Mr Massouris said the upgrade would also extend to a new canteen and improved student recreation areas.

“It will benefit everybody and we’re all over the moon at the prospect of moving into the upgraded and new areas as soon as possible,” he said.
