The Cranbourne Turf Club welcomed back unrestricted crowds after two years of pandemic limits, and the punters could not be happier.

Among the 10,000 people to walk through the gates of the Cranbourne Racecourse on Saturday November 12, bucks parties, fashion fanatics and regular racegoers mixed in together for a day of luck, fanfare and betting.

Mick Floyd, Cranbourne Turf Club’s media and communications manager, said he was happy to see people back at the track..

“The last two years we have been limited to about 4000 people on ground at any given meet,” he said.

“It’s nice to be back in full numbers, and to see people dressed up and enjoying themselves.”

Mr Floyd said presage tickets stood at up to 8000, and his team expected the rest to go throughout the day.

“Looking at the crowd lines this morning, we definitely are expecting a full house for today’s cup,” he said.

Among the revellers was Roslyn Andrews, breeder and co-owner of racehorse Serangoon.

“We are very happy with today’s result,” Ms Andrews said, following Serangoon’s race two win.

“He’s a young horse with a good future, and I am so ecstatic with his win.”

Winning numbers were all over the place, with one lucky eight-year-old picking the winner for his parents Michael and Kelly Carty,

“He just picked number two every single race, and so far it’s not been a bad pick,” Ms Carty said.

“He must be our lucky charm today.”

Olivia East, who usually works behind the scenes at race days, was among the spectators today, due to a broken leg.

“A horse kicked me two weeks ago,” she said, dressed to the nines while managing to fashion a moon-boot.

“I’m used to working with the horses, but it’s nice to have a chance to get dressed up and get among the crowd.

“There’s always next year.”

Owners of the racehorse Staunch, who placed second in race six, were sharing some post-race love with him, just as the day was coming to a close.

“He’s such a beautiful horse,” Nicole van den Dungen said.

“We always come to the stables after the race to spend time with the horses after they run

“Everyone is in the winner’s circles, and I always think about the horses who have done all the hard work on the day.”
