The police air wing was kept busy in Melbourne’s southeast in the early hours of Wednesday morning, helping with two arrests in Cranbourne and Carrum within five minutes of each other.

In the first incident the air wing was called to help officers on the ground after a car, seen driving erratically in a nearby suburb, was spotted travelling about 150km/h in an 80km/h zone on Ballarto Rd Cranbourne about 3.15am.

With help from the air, the allegedly stolen vehicle was followed as it travelled along Hall Rd, Frankston Cranbourne Road and then onto the South Gippsland Freeway where officers successfully deployed stop sticks.

The driver lost control and crashed into a ditch at Thompsons Rd in Cranbourne.

A man and the woman in their 20s allegedly tried to run from the car but were intercepted by police on foot and are now helping officers with their inquiries.

After the air wing pulled away from the successful Cranbourne arrest they were called to Seaford after a car sped off from police in Yazaki Way.

Police had tried to intercept the car after they noticed the driver’s headlights were allegedly out and he was roving in an industrial area.

The air wing was able to track the car and guide officers on the ground to a property in Smith St Carrum where the male driver was arrested.

The 37-year-old man is helping police with their inquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incidents or with dashcam is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
