ADRIAN and Melanie Petkovic used to look with disgust at dog poo left by lazy owners — but now they’re making money from it.
About a year ago, the Mornington couple swallowed their pride and started an innovative business — and are now picking up clients as quickly as they pick up the poo.
“We’d take walks along Frankston boardwalk and my wife would say to me, ‘why can’t these people clean up after their dogs?’ ” Mr Petkovic said.

“We thought, well, maybe we should start a business.”
The couple checked if there were any other poo picker-uppers on the peninsula and got the all-clear.
“So then all we needed was a pooper scooper, a bag and then we just did some T-shirts, caps, flyers and business cards,” Mr Petkovic said. “We advertise on Facebook and Gumtree and it has been doing well.
“After all, cleaning up dog poo is not everybody’s forte.
“Everybody loves a pet but cleaning up the poo is another thing.
“We do dog and cat poo, and are thinking about venturing into horse manure.”
Mr Petkovic removes deposits from front and backyards of houses, while his wife manages the “cleaner” side business.
“I just do the bad end of it,” he said. “Some houses we do weekly, others fortnightly.”
They have clients from Carrum to Mt Martha, fitting in the service around their regular day jobs.
The couple charges $20 for cleaning poo from a one-dog property of about 600sq m.
