Postcode 3912 is the latest coronavirus hot spot on the Mornington Peninsula.

The towns of Somerville and Pearcedale have recorded six active cases since July 31.

Previously the area had a total of five cases since the pandemic began.

The latest data from the Department of Health and Human Services also revealed three new cases in postcode 3941 which includes Rye, St Andrews Beach and Tootgarook.

There are also multiple active cases in Mornington which has four, up one from July 31 and Mount Martha which also increased by one to three in the past week.

New single cases were recorded in Mornington, Mount Martha and postcodes 3936 (Arthurs Seat, Dromana and Safety Beach), 3915, (Hastings and Tuerong) 3939 (Boneo, Cape Schanck, Fingal, Rosebud).

The active case count dropped from two to zero in Crib Point and from two to one in Sorrento and Mt Eliza.

The remaining towns were virus free.

According to the latest Department of Health and Human Services figures released on Mondday, August 10 there were 32 active cases on the Mornington Peninsula, compared to 15 on July 31.

Neighbouring municipalities Casey recorded 354 active cases on Monday, August 10 while Frankston had 70.

This is the second time the DHHS has released data breaking down coronavirus case numbers by postcode in Victoria, so it is possible for to see the net change in your area in the past week.

The low numbers on the Mornington Peninsula are a stark contrast to those being recorded in Melbourne’s west and north.

Postcode 3029 – which includes the suburbs of Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina in Melbourne’s west – has 459 active cases, up 113 since the postcode-specific figures were first released.

In Melbourne’s north Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park, Donnybrook, Kalkallo and Mickleham – which fall under postcode 3064 – has 331 active cases, a rise of 45.

“It’s important that every Victorian takes this virus seriously and that we all do the right thing,” Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton said.

Mornington Peninsula mayor Sam Hearn said the low numbers across the Mornington Peninsula was a tribute to community efforts to contain the virus.

“The Peninsula has a lower number of cases than several other non-metropolitan municipalities and has not seen the spike in cases we’re seeing in the metropolitan region and Geelong,” Cr Hearn said.

“These are tough times and it’s only natural to feel a sense of despondency, but the reality is we are doing really well and I hope the community can take heart from that.”

Cr Hearn urged residents to continue to look after each other, check on the wellbeing of friends and neighbours and practice good hygiene and physical distancing.
