Three aged care homes have been hit by coronavirus in Kingston.
Bupa Aged Care Edithvale, Mercy Place Corben Mentone and Mercy Place Mordialloc have all recorded positive cases, with three residents sadly passing away as cases climb at Edithvale.
It comes after Bupa management confirmed a total of 58 people had contracted the disease since July 19, with more cases announced on Sunday.
Most of the sick residents have been sent to hospital, however some are being cared for in a dedicated coronavirus unit separate to their friends.
No deaths have been recorded.
A Mercy Health spokeswoman told the Leader one staff member who worked between the Corben and Mordialloc homes — both located on Brindisi St — was in isolation after returning a positive test last week.
But all staff and residents across both homes have since returned negative results.
The woman also confirmed there was no cases in staff or residents at the other locations at Edithvale and Mordialloc (Nixon house).
“As part of our outbreak response, all staff are wearing full personal protective equipment as prescribed by the Department of Health and Human Services, and we are undertaking more frequent, intensive cleans of our home,” she said.
“Our residents also have more frequent physical health and emotional wellbeing checks so we can detect any changes early … visitors are not permitted to visit, except in
exceptional circumstances.”
The confirmed cases come as diagnoses continue to climb in the neighbouring Bayside council area, with a total of 42 people testing positive at Regis Aged Care Brighton and a staggering 93 people at Menarock Life Highett.
The cases led to the number of active coronavirus cases in the region to jump by 250 per cent between Monday and Wednesday.
