A Hastings family has suffered the unimaginable heartbreak of losing two children in just six months, after its youngest member died after suffering an asthma attack.

Jesse Dalzell-Iverson, a 13-year-old, described as an avid cook, animal lover and gentle soul, died on Friday March 7, just days after having an asthma attack.

Jesse had returned home from school on March 3 and was kicking the footy around his backyard before he began to have an asthma attack.

Despite following normal measures to help with his asthma, the attack progressed.

Jesse’s mum Cindi called an ambulance and administered CPR, before he was rushed to the Frankston Hospital and later transferred to the Monash Children’s Hospital.

Jesse was put on life support, where his family kept a bedside vigil.

Unfortunately Jesse was unable to regain consciousness and doctors informed his family there was “no way he would survive the event”.

The loss of Jesse has only compounded an already harrowing six months for the Dalzell-Iverson family, who lost Jesse’s older brother Cody in a motor-vehicle incident in October last year.

Close family friend Karlie Russell said the experience had been “horrific”.

“They’re taking this really terribly,” she said.

“It’s such a traumatic event for parents to go through.”

Jesse, nicknamed ‘Peanut’ was an avid cook with dreams of becoming a chef, and loved playing video games.
“He used to play Fortnite every night with Cindi” Ms Russell said.

“He was just a really good kid, a precious child.”

Ms Russell started an online fundraiser to help support the Dalzell-Iverson family and “take the pressure off them”.
