THE coffee is flowing again at Oasis Pop Up just one week after red tape forced it to close.

The Bentons Rd business was shut down by Mornington Peninsula Shire Council on August 20, after a permit to serve food and beverages lapsed.

Today it reopened at 4/2A Carbine way, Mornington.

Co-owner George Makool said the business was flooded with calls from people wanting to help after the Leader ran a story about their plight.

“The community really got behind us,” Mr Makool said.

“We had lots of calls including one from the landlord of our new location offering us a short-term lease.

“It’s a great spot. There was a cafe here before so it has everything we need. We feel really lucky.”

Mr Makool said the bakery would continue to operate at Carbine Way until the permit issue could be resolved.

To celebrate, free coffee will be served between 7am and 9am until this Friday.

“It’s a way to thank our loyal customers,” Mr Makool said.

This is the third location for the Oasis Pop Up.

It opened at 988 Nepean Highway in June 2016 as part of a plan to expand the hugely successful Oasis Bakery in Murrumbeena.

The ambitious 1.6ha project includes a 180-seat restaurant, 250-plus seat function centre, produce shop, cooking demonstration area, outdoor food stations.

The pop up was then relocated to 61 Benton’s Rd in May to make way for work to begin on the Nepean Hwy site.

Mr Makool said once the correct permit was obtained the cafe would move back to Bentons Rd.
