Cult coffee group Commonfolk is joining the buzz in Frankston.

The Mornington based cafe and roastery is taking over the reigns at Ol’ Mate Coffee from Dave Easton.

Commonfolk co-founder Sam Keck said the team was keen to “join the renaissance” in Frankston.

“Frankston has really taken off the past 12 months or so. It’s been a bit of a perfect storm with COVID, and a lot of people are wanting to work from home and trying to move down to the Peninsula,” he said.

“A lot of professionals with young families have moved to the area, and they’re keen to spend money in a thriving hospo scene.”

The Nepean Highway cafe has been a Commonfolk coffee partner for five years and Mr Keck said when he heard owner Dave Easton wanted to move on he jumped at the chance to continue the legacy.

“We want to open a cafe that’s run with the locals in mind, we’ve already run a survey to find out what’s missing and what our community is looking for in their local,” he said.

Commonfolk Frankston will continue to champion the company’s ethos which supports ethically sourced coffee beans.

“Coffee will be the main event,” Mr Keck said.

“The house blend will evolve seasonally, always featuring the freshest coffee imported from Commonfolk’s farming partners.

“Rotating single origin espresso, pour over, cold brew and Commonfolk’s cult bottomless batch will keep you buzzing all day.”

The Frankston cafe will also sell fresh roasted beans including rare, single origin beans.

The breakfast and lunch menu will include nods to Ol’ Mate favourites such as the House Deposit featuring a mash up of the original Smashed Up Peas and Smashed Avo.

Other dishes will be transformed including the Benny and the Eggs which will become Bencher and feature slow braised pork cheek and house made hollandaise.

The Mornington Commonfolk cafe was recently named the best on the Mornington Peninsula after a reader vote as part of the Delicious Local campaign championed by Matt Preston.

Frankston Commonfolk will be opening soon at 465 Nepean Highway.
