ONE of the world’s hottest coffee trends is now being poured in Frankston.
Eeny Meeny Cafe is serving coffee in a cone.
The caffeine-dessert hybrid features a waffle cone lined with a triple dark choc layer and filled with coffee.
Cafe owner Robert Wright said the chocolate stopped the coffee from leaking through the cone and imparted a creamy sweetness.
“The longer you wait, the more chocolatey the coffee becomes,” he said.
“It’s a bit like a mocha.
“When you’ve drunk the coffee you can enjoy the crunchy cone.
“It’s like desert and coffee all in one hit.”
Any type of coffee or hot chocolate can be served in the cone, but Mr Wright said it was best suited to a piccolo latte.
Once the coffee is poured, customers have about 10 minutes to drink it before the cone starts to leak, he said.
Coffee in a Cone was invented last year by South African barista and entrepreneur Dayne Levinrad, who trained in Australia at the well-known Harry’s in Bondi cafe and coffee roasters Pablo and Rusty’s, also in Sydney.
It was a hit on social media and quickly became known as the world’s most Instagrammable coffee.
The trend travelled to Europe, Canada and Hong Kong before landing in Melbourne in May.
Mr Wright said Eeny Meeny’s coffee supplier, The Bean Cartel, had the exclusive rights to the product in Victoria.
“They asked us if we wanted to be one of their southern cafes offering it and we jumped at the chance,” he said.
“There has been a lot of interest from customers and it’s great to be able to offer the latest trends.
“Why should the locals have to go to the city to try it?”
The innovation also appealed to those wanting to cut back on their throwaway cup habit, he said.
“It’s something we are encouraging and we’ve actually just signed up with responsiblecafes.org and will be offering a discount to patrons who bring their own cups.
“We’re also planning to stock a range of keep cups with a free fill of coffee with every purchase.”
