Cockatoo thug attacked his stepfather with knuckledusters

The Cockatoo roof tiler didn’t get on with his stepdad, but instead of having a man-to-man chat, he took the law into his own hands.

Lachlan Madden attacked his stepdad with a set of knuckledusters, leaving him covered in blood.

A brute bashed his stepdad with knuckledusters in a violent attack that left the man with dozens of puncture wounds to his head and arms, a court has heard.

Lachlan Madden also threatened him, saying he was going to “kill you c***” in a public Facebook message.

The 23-year-old South Yarra roof tiler pleaded guilty to unlawful assault, threat to kill and using a carriage service to harass at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The court heard Madden got into an argument with his stepfather at the Cockatoo home they used to share at 3pm on May 16 last year

He said he was going to get his knuckledusters and “end him”, before striking the man multiple times.

The victim suffered substantial bleeding and received 27 cuts on his head, arms and hands.

Madden then left the property.

On September 29 he sent text messages to him, saying his stepdad and his mum were “low-life dogs”, before posting threats to kill the man on his Facebook account.

He wrote “this time I won’t miss, I will kill you c*** and “you’ll take your last breath”.

When he was arrested Madden told police he had long suffered violence at the hands of his stepfather, and he had had enough.

He said on this occasion he was protecting himself, as his stepdad had tried to attack him with a shovel, and he retaliated.

His defence lawyer said Madden began using cannabis at the age of eight and then progressed onto ice and GHB when he was older, but that use had subsided since the birth of his son.

Magistrate Julie O’Donnell said he was lucky he wasn’t remanded in custody after the serious attack.

She ordered Madden be assessed for a community corrections order and said he would be sentenced later.
