A man in Melbourne’s southeast has allegedly breached a firearms prohibition order, after being caught in possession of a machete, a shotgun, multiple drugs and $300 cash.

A concerned resident called police to an address in Welwyn Crt, Keysborough on November 14, after witnessing a suspicious vehicle “loitering in a driveway”, with the driver allegedly sighted with a firearm.

The property was cordoned off by police at 3.15pm, after the 39-year-old from Clyde North allegedly refused to leave the address.

Attending officers negotiated with the man, and conducted a search of the car, where they allegedly found a machete, $300 cash and an alleged small amount of cocaine, methamphetamines, cannabis and prescription medication.

After two hours of negotiation, the man surrendered to police, who then searched the property.

A loaded single barrel shotgun and six shotgun rounds were allegedly located in a garden shed.

Officers interviewed the man at the Dandenong police station, where he was charged with allegedly possessing drugs of dependence, and allegedly possessing a prohibited weapon.

Investigators are still conducting inquiries into the alleged possession of the firearm.

The accused has been remanded and will appear before the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on November 30.
