A fire ripped through Cheltenham business Pro Light and Sound late on Saturday night.

Firefighters battled through the night to bring a factory blaze in Melbourne’s south eastern suburbs under control.

As many as 70 firefighters were called to the blaze in Herald St, Cheltenham, just before midnight on Saturday

Fire Rescue Victoria said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were unable to enter the factory due to the intensity of the fire, with their efforts focused on preventing the fire spreading to a neighbouring factory.

FRV said the building was single storey brick and concrete, approximately 20m by 30m in size.

Kerry Sun, whose father owns the property, said they were alerted to the fire at 11.30pm on Saturday.

Mr Sun said he was unsure of the cause of the fire or if it was being treated as suspicious.

He said the blaze was so intense the roof has fallen in and it took until Sunday morning for firefighters to gain entrance.

Police at the scene said they were focused on the structural integrity of the building. A thick chemical haze remains in the air

The business, Pro Light and Sound, was unable to be reached for comment.

“Police responded to reports of a fire on Herald St, Cheltenham around 11.30pm on Saturday,” they said in a statement.

“The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigators will examine the scene.

“No one was injured.”
