When teen Chayse Ryan-Tauroa was going through a rough patch her mum took her on “cow adventures” in a bid to lift her spirits.
The pair started visiting bovine in paddocks near their Carrum Downs home.
“I love cows and being able to interact with them always made me smile,” Chayse said.
While the 17-year-old believes all cows are special she has formed a close bond with one young angus steer.
“I visit him daily. He’s adorable,” she said.
“At first I thought he was a rough head, but soon I realised he just wanted love and cuddles, he would moo whenever he saw I was walking away and truly just wanted to be held.
“This cow has brought too much joy into my life.”
Chayse has resisted the temptation to name the angus steer because he is bred for his meat and destined to be slaughtered.
“I call him 3075 which is the number he is tagged with,” she said.
“I can’t name him yet or I’ll get even more attached.”
Chayse said she talked about 3075 so much a family friend offered to give him a permanent home on her property.
“All I need to do is raise enough money to buy him.”
After talking to 3075’s owner Chayse decided to start an online fundraiser to collect the $2,750 needed to save the animal.
“He’s still young, just a teenager, so we have time to raise the money before his time is up,” she said.
