Looking for a sporting fix with the end of the footy season less than week away? Get ready to be bowled over by the 2022 Indoor Cricket World Cup to be held at Casey Stadium in October.

Players from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England, India, Sri Lanka, UAE and Singapore will flock to Melbourne to compete in the tournament, in both men and women’s open and under 22 teams.

The tournament comes on the back of the Indoor Cricket National Championships at the same venue in June and July.

The first ball of the tournament is on October 8, where Australia and New Zealand will compete on three fronts- the open women’s, and men and women’s under 22 teams, continuing the scorching trans-Tasman rivalry.

The tournament will go for eight days, from October 8 to 15, where entry is free of charge for spectators.

Angie Peresso, the manager of active communities at the Casey Council, said the stadium was the “ideal venue for such an important international event”.

“In 2018, Cricket Australia approached the council to host a number of cricketing events across 2019 – 2021. Casey Stadium is home to Victoria’s largest indoor cricket facility,” she said.

“The pandemic resulted in the 2020 and 2021 events being postponed to this year.”

Ms Peresso said thousands of players from around the world were expected to be in Casey for the tournament.

“More than 5300 people representing 18 teams globally are expected to attend the tournament,” she said.

“An additional 1500 spectators will come through the stadium doors every day. We expect this number to increase on the weekends and during finals.”

Ms Peresso said the tournament would have a huge positive impact on the Casey community.

“Thousands of people will descend on the area, so our hospitality, tourism and retail sectors will receive a significant economic boost,” she said.

“There is so much to see and do in and around the City of Casey, we encourage players, officials and visitors to take some time and explore our wonderful region.”

City of Casey chair Noelene Duff said the event was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect the indoor cricket community from across the world.

“We look forward to welcoming the competing countries to our state-of-the-art indoor cricket facility at Casey Stadium,” she said.

The stadium has been host to multiple cricket tournaments in 2022, including the Indoor Cricket Australia Masters Championship in August.

“I encourage all sports lovers, in particular the cricketing community, to come along and watch some world-class indoor cricket,” Ms Duff said.

Games will also be streamed live on Kayo Sports.
