Cases by region: Locals test positive for coronavirus in Greater Dandenong

The latest data has revealed coronavirus cases recorded in Greater Dandenong has remained steady, while the number of positive tests in Victoria rose by eight from Tuesday.

Coronavirus cases stopped climbing in Greater Dandenong in the past few days, according to the latest State Government data.

The latest Victorian Department of Health and Human Services figures show 16 people in Greater Dandenong have tested positive for the virus, with no new cases overnight Tuesday.

In neighbouring Casey, 51 people have tested positive to the deadly virus.

The latest figures show Victoria’s total number of positive cases is now at 1299 – an increase of eight from Tuesday.

There were no new deaths reported yesterday. To date, 14 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

The total number of cases is made up of 674 men and 625 women, with people aged from babies to their early nineties.

There are 132 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Victoria that may have been acquired through community transmission.

Currently 39 people are in hospital, including 18 patients in intensive care. 1,137 people have recovered. More than 72,000 tests have been completed.

Of the total 1,299 cases, there have been 1,033 in metropolitan Melbourne and 236 in regional Victoria.

A Monash Health spokeswoman said there was no need to phone ahead if looking to get tested.

“Wearing a face mask is encouraged, and we have a supply at the clinic for those who do not have their own. All patients presenting are required to wear a face mask.

“It is important to note that while each individual will be screened and assessed, only people who meet DHHS testing criteria will be tested for COVID-19.

People should visit dhhs.vic.gov.au for more information about the testing criteria.”

A Department of Health and Human Services spokesman said Victoria had established screening and assessment clinics across Melbourne and regional Victoria to test as many people as possible.

“And our world-class hospitals stand ready to establish more as required,” he said.

“We’re working closely with the Commonwealth Government to ensure GPs are also supported in providing advice and screening to potential COVID-19 patients.”

Meanwhile, libraries, sports centres and other key public spaces have shut down across Greater Dandenong.

Greater Dandenong Council corporate services director Mick Jaensch said the council would next week consider a rate relief support package for those most in need within the community.

“Council is also looking to increase its material aid contributions to organisations assisting the community through this crisis,” Mr Jaensch said.

Monash Health has established Screening Clinics across Clayton, Dandenong and Berwick.

All clinics are open from 10.30am to 5pm, seven days a week.
