Two alleged thieves have been caught on camera stealing a Holden V8 Redline Walkinshaw from a Coles carpark in Melbourne’s southeast.
The car owner’s wife, who wanted to remain anonymous, said her husband had only bought the car 10 months ago.
“It really was his pride and joy,” she said.
“We are just so shocked and upset about this. ”
The car had been parked at the Berwick supermarket on the morning of January 24, while the owner had been at work.
“He had been in at work, and hadn’t checked it on his break. It was only later that he came out to find it gone,” she said.
“He said at first he thought he’d forgotten where he’d parked it. He didn’t want to believe it had been stolen.”
The two alleged thieves can be seen entering the red Holden from the passenger side door on the CCTV footage she had obtained.
“I really don’t know how they go into the car without the keys, but we’ve had so many suggestions online about how they might have managed to do it,” she said.
“The car was locked and everything, but as you can see from the footage, that didn’t matter.”
The alleged thieves took no more than 10 minutes to get into the car, start it and drive away.
The victim said she had later found out the white Suzuki Swift seen in the footage was also stolen.
“I posted about the theft and the footage into a community Facebook group,” she said.
“I’ve found so many people on there who have had their cars stolen recently too. We even found out the Suzuki in the video was a stolen car.”
There had been reported sightings of the red Holden at a Cranbourne East property, however the car was yet to be returned.
“One lady said she had seen the thieves driving the car up Cranbourne Rd towards Casey Central, not long after it was stolen,” she said.
“It’s been a week now so we are holding out hope, but it really has made us paranoid about everything.”
The distinctive red Holden was fitted with personalised number plates and a set of standard number plates inside the car.
Police have urged anyone who has seen the car to contact 000 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 immediately.
