Cannabis plants seized and police rammed

Police uncovered about 180kg of drugs at a Carrum Downs property in an early morning search last week. Plus more crime from Melbourne’s southeast.

CARRUM DOWNS

More than 400 cannabis plants were found at a property in Carrum Downs by Southern Metro Division 4 Divisional Response Unit detectives on February 12.

Officers attended the Leah Grove address and discovered the alleged 180kg of drugs about 5.30am.

Forensic officers from the Victoria Police Botany Unit attended the scene to assess the plants.

“A seizure of this size will hopefully make a significant impact and reduce the amount of illicit drugs reaching the community,” Detective Sergeant Flyn Loughlin said.

PORT MELBOURNE

Four people have been arrested as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

A 45-year-old Port Melbourne man was allegedly found in possession of a quantity of drugs and cash after he allegedly fled from police as they attempted to speak to him in Raglan St just after 4pm on February 12.

He has been charged with traffick a large commercial quantity of drugs of dependence, possess proceeds of crime and other drug related offences.

Subsequent searches were conducted where further an amount of cash, firearms and drugs, including what is believed to be cocaine, methamphetamine were seized.

BENTLEIGH

A Lexus wagon was stolen from a Bentleigh home on January 30.

Investigators have been told the burglars gained entry to the Hallow St residence while residents were at home, but were unharmed.

Police say in the early hours of January 31 a man and woman went to a convenience store in Hampton in the stolen vehicle, which was recovered later that morning.

A woman has been charged and bailed to appear in court.

ASPENDALE GARDENS

Police in Melbourne’s southeast continue to warn of thefts from cars after another incident, this time in Aspendale Gardens.

Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit detectives have been told an unknown person gained entry to a vehicle on Angie Court between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on February 1, stealing a wallet.

Bank cards from the wallet were later used at two convenience stores and a restaurant on Wells Rd, Chelsea Heights and a bank in Aspendale Gardens.

Police have released images of a man they believe can assist with their investigation.

HASTINGS

A man is in a critical condition after a stabbing in Hastings overnight on February 9.

Police have arrested a man after the alleged attack at an address on Simon Street at approximately 9.30pm. The victim has been flown to hospital.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident but it is understood the two men are known to each other.

CAULFIELD

A man allegedly drove through a roller door in Caulfield on February 11.

Police were called to the Wilks St residential complex following calls a man and woman were acting suspiciously about 10.45pm.

When police approached the pair the man jumped in a vehicle, reversing and crashing into a pole, causing police to jump to safety before driving through the carpark roller door and out onto Wilks St.

Investigators are looking for a 2019 Hyundai Tuscan wagon.

CAULFIELD SOUTH

A man will be without his car for 30 days after he was detected drink driving in Caulfield North on February 7.

Police were patrolling the area following reports a man was found asleep in the front garden of a house on Kooyong Rd just before 6am.

The man was asked to leave by a resident and left in a white Toyota ute.

Police stopped the ute a short time later in Carinya Crescent where the driver allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.153.

A 27-year-old Belmont man was expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
