Teens charged over alleged bus driver bashing in Officer

Two teenagers have been charged after a bus driver was allegedly attacked and left unconscious in Officer over a dispute about face masks.

Two teenagers have been charged after a bus driver was allegedly bashed in Officer after an argument over face masks became violent.

Emergency services were called to Siding Ave about 4pm on Tuesday after reports a man was allegedly assaulted at a bus stop.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said male passengers were allegedly involved in an argument with a bus driver over wearing face masks.

The driver got off the bus where the verbal altercation allegedly occurred and was seriously assaulted, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

The alleged attackers fled the scene.

Two 17-year-old boys have been charged with intentionally cause injury and other assault-related charges and will appear before a Children’s Court at a later date.

The bus driver, a 54-year-old Frankston South man, was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

In Victoria, anyone eight years and over must wear a fitted face mask on public transport unless a lawful exception applies.
