POLICE have located body parts believed to be those of an elderly angler last seen fishing off rocks at Blairgowrie.

At around 11am yesterday hikers discovered a foot in a fishing boot at a site near the Gunnamatta Surf Life Saving Club.

Search continues for missing fisherman who failed to return home after a trip to Blairgowrie

Yik Sua Hong, 78, was last seen fishing off the rock shelf near the Number Sixteen Access Rd on October 29.

Mr Hong had left his Wantirna home about 9am and was due back between 6pm and 7pm that evening.

A surfer told police he was getting out of the water because the wind and conditions were intensifying, with waves exceeding 2m, when he saw Mr Hong fishing from the rocks.

His vehicle was found locked in a nearby car park.

Extensive police and emergency services searches, including the air wing, could not locate the missing man.

It is believed he was swept into the water and subsequently drowned.

Rosebud Police Senior Sergeant Steve Wood said the finding was consistent with where a body or parts would wash up.

“I can confirm human remains were located about 3km east of Gunnamatta Lifesaving Club,” Sen-Sgt Wood said.

“The human remains consist of a foot and lower leg bones.

“The search for the missing man will continue while DNA tests with his immediate family are being conducted.”

The remains are now with the Coroner.
