A new fitness track in Narre Warren North will go one better than Upper Ferntree Gully’s hugely popular 1000 steps.

The official unveiling of Bayview Park’s 1001 steps in Quarry Rd is planned for July.

Climbers can take in views of Casey, Western Port and Port Phillip Bay.

The former Narre Warren tip was transformed into the landscaped track after Casey councillor Rosalie Crestani launched the project three years ago.

“Just as a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step, Casey’s 1001 steps began with a single phone call,” Cr Crestani said.

“I mentioned to a local MP how amazing it would be if Casey had a destination like Upper Ferntree Gully’s 1000 steps — he told me to make it happen.”

Cr Crestani said the destination would be a first for Casey.

“I believe the benefits for the community will continue to roll in. The sweeping views of two bays will make this a place of destination and perhaps even encourage tourism.”

Cr Crestani said the site also had the potential to increase property values.

“Unsurprisingly an added side benefit is the potential for increase in property value for local properties as a natural result,” she said.

“Already sporting groups and individual athletes have mentioned training regimes and local scout groups are earmarking it for a badge achievement.”

Cr Crestani said the track catered for people of all fitness abilities.

“Casey always does one better and we’re so proud to be able to deliver this project to the community.”

She said she thanked fellow councillors and the wider community for their support.

“My dream became a reality and I have so many to thank including Cr Gilic and all my council colleagues.”
