Banned Carrum Downs driver on his way to buy toilet rolls from local shops cops a fine and ban
A banned Carrum Downs driver made a crappy decision to get behind the wheel to go and buy some loo paper from the shops. Now he has flushed his licence — and a fair whack of cash — down the dunny.

Getting behind the wheel to go and buy desperately-needed toilet rolls is not a good reason to drive while suspended, a court has heard.
Banned motorist Maurizio Carandente pleaded guilty to driving suspended in Frankston Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.
The court heard Carandente, 28, was nabbed in a police routine check on Ballarto Rd in Carrum Downs on February 22
He offered officers the lame loo excuse that he was on his way to the shops to buy bathroom
Carandente, caught behind the wheel just 1km from his home, told officers he knew he was suspended — he had lost his licence for three months for speeding in December — and wasn’t allowed back on the road until March.
He said he usually took Uber to get around and to work — his online profile says he is a Red Hill restaurant manager — but needed some bathroom items so decided to drive.
In court he defended himself, saying he was remorseful for his mistake.
“I went out to buy cigarettes, and to buy toilet rolls,” Carandente said.
“I was going to the shops, it was 1km from my house.
“I knew I shouldn’t have been driving, I didn’t expect to be so unlucky to get caught.”

Of Italian heritage, he told the court he was on a work visa and wanted to avoid a conviction so as to not hamper his future citizenship plans.
Magistrate Dominic Lennon said Carandente’s driving while knowingly suspended was a “deliberate and unjustified act”.
He was fined $500 and given a one month driving ban. No conviction was recorded.
