AUTHORITIES have ducked questions on how they will fix too-narrow bus bays in the $13 million Young St revamp.

VicRoads, which oversaw the redevelopment in central Frankston, refused to comment.

A government spokesman said the redevelopment had been constructed according to all relevant guidelines and regulations.

“But on-street testing has demonstrated that further work needs to be undertaken to allow for all bus services to operate from the interchange,” he said.

The spokesman would not answer questions on what rectification works would be carried out.

Frankston Labor MP Paul Edbrooke said VicRoads constructed the road to specification and two-way traffic including buses and trucks were using the road every day.

“As per design there is a minimum 3m to 3.2m driving lane space for vehicles on Young St, just like many other streets in Frankston,” Mr Edbrooke said.

The disruptive revamp, which was dogged by major delays, finished last month.

But multiple bus bays have not been operational with Young St workers telling the Leader it was clear the road was too narrow and the bus bays not big enough.
