A Vinnies store in Melbourne’s southeast has been defaced with human faeces after an anti-vaxxer was rejected because of their Covid vaccine status.
The waste was smeared across the window near the entry door at the Frankston shop on Wednesday.
A spokeperson from St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria said the “regrettable incident” resulted from a person who was declined entry as they were unable to show their vaccination status.
“It was upsetting for staff and volunteers at our shop,” they said.
“However, we would like to reiterate that we are continuing to help people regardless of their vaccination status.”
A Carrum Downs woman took a photo of the vile attack and posted it on social media.
“This is utterly disgusting the lengths some people will go to because they are rejected from a store because they aren’t vaccinated,” she said.
“It doesn’t give you the right to deface a store because you’re not allowed in.”
It comes after reports of other Victorian retailers being physically abused over the state’s vaccine mandate, with some workers being struck with trolleys and boiling liquids by angry shoppers.
A Thornbury small business owner was left shaken after anti-vaxxers vandalised his cafe, leaving a menacing death threat and causing thousands of dollars in damage.
The Vinnies spokesperson said it’s important for the community to show kindness while their stores adhere to government guidelines.
Vinnies shops are predominantly volunteer-run and provide quality low-cost clothes and household items for people in need.
