Alleged thieves who stole several excavators from a construction site before driving one down the street, asked a witness for cocaine then shouted “welcome to Frankston”.

A witness reported the offending to police and alleges one excavator was being driven down Beach St at 2am on August 24.

He confronted the alleged offender, then was almost hit by the vehicle, before one offender allegedly asked him for cocaine and yelled “welcome to Frankston”.

Police alleged the offenders then drove down Stanley St and dumped the excavator on Queen St.

The building site on the corner of Fletcher St and Cranbourne Rd was broken into a short time before the excavator was seen on the street.

It is believed several offenders broke into the site and allegedly stole multiple excavators, drove them around the site before one crashed through the site fence.

The excavator found on Queen St is believed to have also driven onto a footpath causing damage to a medical centre fence on the corner of Beach and Stanley St.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the alleged offence, or who has information to report it to crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit an online report.
