A traffic light study at a “notorious” Endeavour Hills intersection could provide important details into the death of three-year-old girl Mila.

Alleged Endeavour Hills fatal driver leaves court

Investigators have probed the traffic lights at a “deadly” Endeavour Hills intersection after a 3-year-old was killed, a court has heard.

Mila Wang died from her injuries after she was hit by a vehicle, allegedly driven by 24-year-old Kamal Ghali while crossing Heatherton Rd with family about 8.30am on October 17.

Mr Ghali had his bail extended when he fronted the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with dangerous driving causing death.

In a brief filing hearing, defence lawyer George Balot told the court a traffic light study had been undertaken where the fatal collision occurred.

“It’s a notorious deadly stretch of road subject to two pedestrian fatalities (in recent years),” Mr Balot told the court.

“There has been a study of the traffic lights that will be released in due course.”

Outside court, Mr Balot said Mr Ghali had expressed his “deepest condolences to the Wang family”.

“At the same time it’s important to maintain the presumption of innocence,” Mr Balot said.

“This is a deadly intersection where the traffic lights are being examined and that remains to be seen as to what the results will be.”

Since Mila’s death, a petition — which has gained nearly 2000 signatures — has been launched, calling for a pedestrian bridge over Heatherton Rd for safer access.

Mr Ghali will return to court for committal case conference in March.
