A man accused of attacking his Noble Park housemate with a chair leg because his music was too loud was on bail at the time for allegedly bashing Dandenong Plaza security guards.

Ali Nazari, 34, who appeared via videolink at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, is also charged with assaulting police officers, discharging missiles and stalking his ex-partner during an alleged series of rage-induced incidents.

The court heard on December 6 Mr Nazari was at a Noble Park home when he became angry due to the volume of music being played by his housemates.

He started yelling and abusing them, allegedly throwing glasses towards them and chucking a chair in their direction, causing it to break into pieces.

Mr Nazari allegedly picked up a chair leg and used the wooden weapon to hit one of the men, who deflected the blows with his arm and hands.

Police were called and Mr Nazari was arrested at the home.

Mr Nazari was found to be on bail at the time to live at a Dandenong address for allegedly stalking and harassing his ex, sending her a barrage of threatening messages and driving past her house.

He was on another bail over two allegedly violent incidents at Dandenong Plaza, where police say he assaulted and threatened to kill security guards on January 9 and 10 last year after they were called to removed him for aggressively confronting bank staff and charity workers.

Mr Nazari is accused of punching and biting the guards before attacking police who came to arrest him.

His defence lawyer told the court Mr Nazari’s “pattern of bizarre behaviours” was due to his ongoing mental health struggles and if bailed he would be going straight to a hospital for an assessment.

The lawyer said some of the charges were still in contention and Mr Nazari had suffered on remand due to the onerous pandemic conditions in custody.

Magistrate Tony Burns said the community danger posed by Mr Nazari meant bail could not be granted.

“The risk is high,” Mr Burns said.

“It seems he has a preparedness to assault emergency workers and members of the public.”

Bail was refused and Mr Nazari remanded in custody until January 22.
