A man accused of carrying out a violent slashing spree at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s southeast has also been charged with other violent offending, court documents have revealed.
Jack Gregg, 30, appeared in the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court via video-link on February 21, facing 20 charges, including unlawful assault and animal abuse.
In court documents seen by the Herald Sun, it is alleged Mr Gregg was at Fountain Gate shopping centre at Narre Warren on November 5 in 2024, when he allegedly wolf-whistled at two girls and called them “sluts”.
Police allege Mr Gregg grabbed a 51-year-old witness’s phone out of her hands and smashed it to the ground before striking her three times, after seeing the woman call centre security.
When bystanders came to the woman’s aid, Mr Gregg allegedly pulled out a box cutter.
Police arrested Mr Gregg and the woman was taken to hospital with a cut above her eye and bruising to her jaw and upper body.
Mr Gregg told investigating officers the woman had called him a “junkie rat”.
Police have also alleged Mr Gregg threatened to “smash up” a pregnant woman’s Narre Warren home in December last year, while she was hiding in a locked bedroom with her pets.
He allegedly used an axe, dragging it along the walls of the house and smashing up a TV, before fleeing police.
In January, Mr Gregg was arrested over another allegedly violent outburst, where he allegedly smashed a woman’s arm with a hammer after saying “I wish I could kill you”.
Police say he inflicted a savage attack on the woman, before allegedly kicking her dog and threatening it with a hammer, saying “I’m going to smash your f--king dog’s head in”.
Mr Gregg allegedly swung the hammer at the woman 20 times, before she got between Mr Gregg and the dog.
He allegedly rammed the woman’s head against a doorframe, against a tiled floor and choked her for 40 seconds, leaving her dizzy and unable to breathe.
On Friday, Mr Gregg’s lawyer Raf Aviles asked the court for an adjournment to continue discussion with the prosecution.
Mr Gregg is on remand and will return to court on March 5 for a further mention.
