Regional Victorian Uber passengers are more courteous than their metropolitan counterparts, according to new data.
Uber’s statistics show over the past year, Victorians have had a lower average Uber rider rating than the nation as a whole – 4.8 stars compared with 4.82 stars out of five – and rank second-last of all Australian states and territories.
The Northern Territory, New South Wales, and Queensland boast the top three spots by jurisdiction, sharing a 4.84-star average.
Melbourne has a rating of 4.8, making it 15th among other metropolitans areas.
Newcastle in NSW and Cairns in Queensland have the two-highest metropolitan city ratings of 4.89.
But move out to Victoria’s regions, and the data seems to indicate more civility among Uber users.
Horsham has the best rating in the entire country at 4.99.
Warrnambool, Shepparton, Ballarat, and the Morning Peninsula all also beat out Melbourne.
Rider ratings are based on a person’s past 500 trips, and drivers are not required to rate passengers.
Uber recommended passengers make polite conversation, be punctual, clean, and respectful, and not slam doors to boost their ratings.
