Bandidos bikies roared into Ballarat on Saturday for the club’s AGM and a meal at popular local restaurant Lazy Moe’s.

The licensed venue, which markets itself as “a place where bigger is better”, offers a wide menu including fried breakfasts, parmies, burgers and loaded fries.

Patched members of the Bandidos were seen enjoying Lazy Moe’s hospitality on Saturday afternoon, as well as that of the adjoining hotel.

Victoria police had set up checkpoints, inspecting drivers licenses and taking photos of Bandidos as they arrived into town.

Police on Friday warned they would be highly visible in the western part of the state this weekend and were “ready to take swift action” in response to any criminal activity as the bikies descended on Ballarat.

Inspector Bob Heaney said both uniformed and specialist units would be out in force to monitor the group.

“Victoria Police will have an increased presence across the Ballarat area this weekend to minimise any community disruption or intimidation that may arise from the Bandidos OMCG presence,” he said.

He said local police would be assisted by members of the anti-gang Echo and VIPER taskforces to set up a vehicle checkpoint “to ensure the riders are complying with the road rules and conducting themselves appropriately”.

“We will be monitoring all activity and will be ready to take swift action to prevent, detect and disrupt any potential unlawful activity. It will not be tolerated,” Inspector Heaney said.

He assured the Ballarat community that police had made “wide scale preparations” and were “ready to appropriately monitor and respond to OMCG activities”.

“Victoria Police is not intimidated by OMCGs and we will not allow our communities to be intimidated either.

“We will be doing everything we can to ensure the community are safe and enjoy the weekend.”

The Bandidos are expected to leave Ballarat on Sunday, November 20.

Anyone with information about OMCG activity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppers.com.au”
