Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said a woman in her 40s was treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation and burns to her back.
Maroondah detective Senior Sergeant Chris Goldrick said the woman was taken to The Alfred hospital in a non-life threatening condition for treatment.
Sen-Sgt Goldrick said the fire was non-suspicious following inspections from detectives and arson chemists.
The MFB said candles should be supervised at all times, and people should ensure candles and other open flames were extinguished before leaving the house or going to bed.
Candles should also be kept a safe distance from flammable objects and out of the reach of children.
Candles, incense and oil burners should only be kept on stable, non-combustible surfaces.
