Upwey man found on Morris Rd with head injuries, Maroondah police investigate
A man is in an induced coma after he was found lying in the middle of a Dandenong Ranges road with a head injury so severe he had bleeding on his brain. But police don’t think he was hit by a car, so what happened to him?

An Upwey man is in an induced coma at the Royal Melbourne Hospital after he was found lying in the middle of a road with severe head injuries.
But police believe the 37-year-old man from Morris Rd — the same road where he was found — was not hit by a car.
Maroondah highway patrol are investigating after officers received two separate reports about a man seen on Morris Rd about 9.25pm on Sunday, March 8.
Sergeant Mick Aston said police were responding to a report of a man walking in the middle of Morris Rd in dark clothing where there were no street lights.
“Police were on their way to investigate when they received another call about the same man lying on the same road,” Sgt Aston said.
“He was found by a group of cyclists who were riding past.”
Sgt Aston said the man had head injuries and was taken by helicopter to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
He said police have identified the man and informed his family.
“He was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and underwent surgery for a large bleed on the brain,” Sgt Aston said.
“He is in an induced coma.”
Sgt Aston said police were at the scene until the early hours of this morning and do not believe the man was hit by a car.

He said police were continuing their investigations and while they cannot rule out a car being involved, they are looking into other causes.
“We can’t rule out a car being involved by we’re looking at other instances which may have let to him being found with head injuries,” Sgt Aston said.
