A fundraising page has been set up to support two men seriously injured in an Upwey gas explosion.

A GoFundMe page, called Help Mitch and Harry recover, has been established to support the men after the explosion in Mahony St, Upwey, at 1.30pm Tuesday.

“(Mitch) suffered horrific and very serious burns from a gas explosion when he was working on his car with his uncle Harry,” the page said.

“They were both airlifted to The Alfred where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

“Mitch sustained third and fourth degree burns to his body, his uncle suffered 40 per cent (burns) to his body.

“Uncle Harry is also undergoing chemotherapy treatment which will be setback due to this accident.”

The page said Mitch had already had “the worst year of his life”.

“The loss of his father and then shortly after the loss of his beloved fiance Jordana to cancer.

“We have all seen just how strong Mitch has been the last few months but that’s all come crashing down.”

“No one deserves this, and Mitch most definitely shouldn’t be going through this. We have all seen how strong he has been since his life was turned completely upside down so this is devastating.”

The GoFundMe page will raise money for Mitch and Harry’s current medical bills, future medical expenses and “anything else they may need to make their recovery as smooth and as speedy as possible without causing this added financial stress that comes with such an event”.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics responded to the incident at 1.40pm, and treated the two men for serious burns.

Authorities will investigate the cause of the blast.
