BUILDING heights in Upper Ferntree Gully are back on the council’s agenda with another push to set a mandatory limit in parts of the suburb.

Last month, the final decision was made to scrap Amendment C141, including plans for the strict 8.5m controls for most of the town.

That decision was against recommendations from council officers and an independent planning panel, which recommended two-storey limits except at the 1812 Theatre.

The Upper Ferntree Gully activity centre is now covered by a discretionary maximum building height of 7.5m.

But council city development director Angelo Kourambas said that at Monday’s strategic planning committee meeting, Cr Jackson Taylor moved a motion that in effect asked Planning Minister Richard Wynne to prepare, adopt and approve an amendment to the Knox planning scheme, without further public consultation, in accordance with the recommendations of the independent panel report relating to Amendment C141.

This was successful.

Cr Taylor has been contacted for further comment.

Leader has also approached the State Government for comment.
