A LILYDALE retirement village has paid tribute to the important role horses played during World War I.
Two magnificent black Percherons — animals from the Channel Nine TV mini-series Gallipoli — visited Tudor Village recently.
The visit was organised by Le Pine Funerals and horses Jet and Sky were led through the grounds, with residents able to give them a pat and a feed of carrots.
Le Pine Funerals regional manager Ash Crow said the visit was organised to commemorate the Anzac Centenary with the local community.
“A lot of people spoke about their memories of their parents who served in the war, and it was incredible to hear the accounts of what the war time was like,” Mr Crow said.
“A lot of that generation grew up with horses and have a connection with horses so it was great to see their faces light up when they saw them.”
