Premier Cricket: An array of first-timers have made the cut in our Team of the Week

A selection of stars made use of the brief sunshine in the men’s competition while there were no shortage of all-rounders starting the women’s season strongly. See our Premier Cricket Teams of the Week.

A mix of new and old make up our Team of the Week.

There’s regulars, Tom Rogers, Makinley Blows and Amy Yates, while Aidan Lenehan, Lachie Field and Chloe Sewell have made their debuts.

See who else made the cut in our first Team of the Week for season 2024-25.

MEN

1. Justin Galeotti (Greenvale Kangaroos)

The Kangaroos skipper carried his bat to make 65no out of 133. Put away four boundaries and gallantly held things together as wickets fell.

2. Sam Harper (Melbourne, wk)

Harper was the first centurion of the Premier Cricket season, crunching 142 off just 116 balls. He hit six boundaries and nine towering sixes.

3. Campbell Kellaway (Melbourne)

The young Victorian batter went in at 1-3 and played beautifully, making 75 off 93 balls, with 6 fours and a huge slog-sweep six during a superb 169-run partnership with Sam Harper.

4. Josh Larkin (Geelong)

The Geelong captain carved out 63 with the bat before snaring 4-25 with the ball in his side’s first win of the summer.

5. Jonathan D’Rozario (Richmond)

The former Buckley Ridges right-hander scored his maiden century in Premier Cricket, 103 off 110 balls (1 six, 6 fours) to fire the Tigers to 6-307 against Kingston Hawthorn.

6. Lachie Field (Geelong)

Field’s maiden Premier Cricket century came at a perfect time for the Cats. He finished with 105 off 126 deliveries and put together a 144-run partnership with Josh Larkin.

7. Tom Rogers (Ringwood)

The big-hitting batsman impressed with the ball in the season-opener, nabbing 2-34 off 10 overs. He then smacked 28no off 22 balls before play was abandoned.

8. Nathan Lambden (Casey South Melbourne)

Lambden continued his dazzling 2023-24 with a match-defining 4-37 against Frankston Peninsula in round 1. The quickie helped the Swans mop up the Heat in a tight finish.

9. Jackson Smith (Northcote)

The former Queenslander made a sizzling start, dismissing Melbourne skipper Blake Thomson first ball. He went on to take 4-51 off 10 overs.

10. Michael Archer (Carlton)

The leggie’s 3-39 off 10 helped Carlton take Essendon from 0-102 to 9-180.

11. Aidan Lenehan (Frankston Peninsula)

Spearheading the Heat attack, Lenehan captured a career-best 4-27 off 9.3 overs to have Casey’s top order under the pump.

WOMEN

1. Makinley Blows (EMP)

Blows crunched 65 off only 52 deliveries in EMP’s run chase. She was one of just two Bombers to pass 15.

2. Jess Field (Geelong)

The Geelong skipper led from the front, peeling off an undefeated 60 off 59 balls (7 fours, 1 six) to fire the Cats to a first-up victory. Also chipped in with a wicket and a catch.

3. Tiana Atkinson (Ringwood)

Ringwood’s boom recruit started her season strongly, knocking out 69 off 61 balls. Atkinson also took a catch in a difficult day for the Rams.

4. Rhiann O’Donnell (Melbourne)

The Melbourne Renegades all-rounder was in the thick of the action, making a quick-fire 21 and nabbing 2-16 off four overs in the Demons’ win.

5. Gaby Lewis (Dandenong)

The Irish international steered the Panthers to victory with 58 from 40 balls. She saved energy at the crease, scoring 42 of her 58 runs in boundaries.

6. Ira Aery (EMP)

The talented teenager struck form with bat and ball; cracking six boundaries in her 38 off 36 balls and taking 1-23.

7. Amy Yates (Melbourne)

The Una Paisley Medalist scored a quick 21 at the top of the order before jagging 2-17 with the ball.

8. Mia Perrin (Prahran, wk)

The sweet-timing opener made a run-a-ball 24 (3 fours) and kept well in a promising first showing.

9. Chloe Sewell (Geelong)

The young gun was the pick of the Cats’ bowlers, snaring 3-31 off four overs in a successful total defence.

10. Adelaide Campion (Plenty Valley)

The Bats skipper bowled beautifully to snare 2-8 off 3 overs.

11. Katia Jomini (Carlton)

Jomini put the clamps on EMP with a very tidy spell of 2-17 off four overs.
