A registered sex offender who confirmed a doctor’s appointment with a sexually explicit text message later attempted to groom what she thought was a 14-year-old girl but in reality was an undercover cop.

Malcolm Willet, 43, of Endeavour Hills, pleaded guilty in the County Court on Tuesday to charges of using a carriage service to procure a person under 16 for sex, possessing child abuse material and failing to comply with reporting obligations.

Willet, who now identifies as a she, will be sentenced on June 6.

The summary of facts stated Willet was convicted in the Melbourne Magistrates Court in June 2021 on charges, including possessing child abuse material, sexual assault and using online information to transmit child pornography.

She was sentenced to nine months’ jail, to be followed by an 18-month community corrections order and was placed on the sex offender register.

Three months later, police were informed by a doctor’s office that Willet had replied to an appointment confirmation with a sexually-explicit text message.

Among the contexts of her message were “You must be 18+, nudes $30, wank vids $30 and hook up sex $150.”

Investigations revealed she had created a Snapchat account without informing police and shortly after, a covert operative from the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team engaged with her.

The covert operative purported to be a 14-year-old girl living in Heidelberg and sent a friend request to Willet on her Snapchat account.

She accepted the request and the two engaged in sexually explicit conversation that included invitations for sex and organising details on a place to meet.

Police located 102 files that consisted of 96 images and six videos that were classified as child abuse material from his mobile phone.

Willet told police she had met people through Google Hangouts, Snapchat and Kik and she tried to call the 1800 number to report her accounts to police but had difficulty in getting through to someone in September and October, 2021.
