A family-owned Ringwood jewellery business is closing after 18 years due to tough trading conditions and the challenges of operating another nearby store.
Ringwood Jewellers will close its store at Ringwood Square shopping centre tomorrow after it was opened by Peter and Pam Beever in 2001.
Their son, Cameron, is general manager and the fourth generation of watchmakers in the family, which started with his great grandfather in the UK in 1904.
Cameron said the retailer was sad to leave Ringwood Square but was unable to reach a new lease agreement.
He said a tough retail climate and operating their other store at nearby Eastland — which is staying open — were also factors in the decision.

“We’re sad to be leaving, we’ve got 18 years of wonderful history here and built up a massive clientele over the years,” he said.
“But the commercial reality is we don’t need two stores close together anymore.”
Mr Beever said the shopping centre was a hub for independent businesses and he had enjoyed trading among them.
“We’re all small independently-owned businesses, coming to our business is like coming to our homes, that’s the sort of feel it is down here,” he said.
