Ringwood is getting its own fire festival in 2020

An arts festival drawing big names to Ringwood has been rebranded after only two years — with organisers deciding to add a few more fiery attractions in 2020.

The Ringwood Spiegeltent is gone — in name only — with Maroondah Council and Eastland to relaunch its April arts event as a fire festival.

But live entertainment lovers can rest assured there will still be performances under a big top as part of the rebranded event.

The festival, part of the Karralyka 2020 season, will remain at Ringwood Town Square and be headlined by fire-twirling circus act Fuego Carnal in its Victorian debut.

Fuego Carnal features husband and wife Sophie and Jacob McGrath, who have received rave reviews for performances at fringe festivals throughout Australia.

Other performers include comedian Jimeoin, former The Block contestant and cabaret star Amity Dry, the Head First Acrobats and Ladies of Laugh.

Maroondah Mayor Mike Symon said the festival had been rebranded as the council wanted to “continue to provide new and exciting experiences for our community”.

“The feedback we have received is that people enjoyed the ‘festival’ experience that Spiegeltent offered, including a variety of different performances catering for all members

of the family,” he said.

“So, for 2020 we will be launching a new festival experience, this time focused on the theme of fire — symbolising hot, action-packed and thrilling performances which will excite audiences of all ages.

“While the tent and theme are different, the festival atmosphere and vibe it will create will be the same.”

Cr Symon said all performances involving fire would be managed in accordance with required guidelines.

The Ringwood Fire Festival will be held from March 27 to April 4.
