Retired couple spruiks benefits of living in Knox’s Kubix apartment development

EVER wondered who buys an apartment out in the suburbs? This couple has moved into one of the outer east’s newest developments and is loving it.

A RETIRED couple who left their large Boronia home for a penthouse apartment in one of Knox’s tallest buildings say they are loving the change of lifestyle.

David and Norma Trill are living on the eighth floor in the $100 million Kubix development’s first tower, after downsizing from their four-bedroom home in August last year.

They enjoy the 180-degree views looking towards Glen Waverley, and often sip a Baileys out on their balcony.

Mr Trill is 70 and his wife in her late 60s, and opted for a two-bedroom apartment after deciding they were too young for a retirement village.

Mr Trill said although it was a big adjustment getting used to a smaller space, they were enjoying the change.

He said they were able to walk across the road to Westfield Knox, where they are part of a walking group, and had easy access to various other activities such as tenpin bowling and aerobics in neighbouring suburbs.

“Everything is handy,” Mr Trill said.

“We both enjoy it. It’s very easy to clean an apartment up, all your workload is gone, it’s relax, relax, relax … and the fact it is a well-secured building was also important.

“I would recommend (apartment living) to people, but what I would say is talk to somebody who has already gone through that process, to make sure you get what you want.”

He said they were looking forward to the third Kubix tower being completed so they could use the swimming pool set to be built there.

Although the outside colourful block appearance of the Kubix tower has raised the eyebrows of some in Knox, Mr Trill said they were happy with its appearance.

Work has started on the final two eight and 10-storey towers — designed by the architects of Melbourne’s landmark Eureka Tower — on the corner of Stud Rd and Burwood Highway.

Since sales launched in late 2013, Kubix sales manager Stanley Chu said 74 of the 88 one and two-bedroom apartments in the eight-storey building had been sold.

Stage three was launched last June, and about half of the 10-storey building’s 100 one, two and three-bedroom apartments had also been sold, he said.

The eight-storey building is expected to be finished by early next year and the second building by the end of 2017.

He said construction on schedule.

The existing eight-storey building, completed in late last year has all but one of its 88 apartments occupied.

Mr Chu said the development had proven popular, with Westfield Knox across the road a huge attraction.

The shopping centre is due to have a $450 million expansion, but Westfield has remained tightlipped on its progress.

Mr Chu said apartments had been popular with older couples looking to downsize.

One-bedroom apartments start from $330,000.

The apartments are being sold through Ray White Bayswater and DealCorp.
