Puffing Billy Railway: Belgrave service allows dogs to travel on board tourist train

In news sure to get tails wagging, Australia’s favourite steam train, Puffing Billy, is now welcoming four-legged passengers.

Puffing Billy Railway is launching a special Dog Express, allowing pet owners to bring their four-legged family members along for a special trip through the hills.

The railway is introducing a special monthly Emerald Lakeside to Gembrook service, allowing furry travellers and their owners to enjoy a 40-minute journey through the Wright State Forest, over three historic trestle bridges, and past Cockatoo and Fielder station as the train climbs towards Gembrook.

Travellers can start the day at Emerald Lake Park, with plenty of trails for dogs and their owners to explore, before boarding dog-friendly carriages at Lakeside station.

Once arriving at Gembrook, passengers and dogs will again have the chance to enjoy the adjacent JAC Russell Park.

Puffing Billy Railway chief executive Peter Abbott said: “There are so many people in our community who love their pets and with 40 per cent of canines living in Australian homes, it made sense to include them in an outdoor activity like Puffing Billy.”

The Dog Express will run on May 29, July 31 and August 28.

Cost $15 per dog.
