Prahran bars: Three Monkeys, Death and Glory punters accused of weeing in Anchor Lane

Chapel St boozers are jumping bollards at bars to use alleways as their own personal toilet. That’s not the only trouble they’re causing.

Filthy partygoers have continued their gross behaviour in a Prahran alleyway, with neighbours saying the authorities are letting the suburb become “a public toilet”.

But Stonnington Council says it has been monitoring the issues in Anchor Place and will crack down on anyone misbehaving.

Leader revealed on February 19 the concerns from neighbours in the laneway off Chapel St, which is home to bars Death And Glory and Three Monkeys.

Resident Jo Flynn and others in her six-apartment complex believe patrons have been causing havoc outside the two bars since the introduction of on-street dining.

On the weekend, Ms Flynn said she was sitting on her balcony and saw 15 people urinating in the laneway on February 20, between 11.45pm and 12.15am.

Previous alleged behaviour has included revellers urinating in the laneway and in a letterbox, excessive loud noise, dumping rubbish and throwing bottles at balconies.

Staff at both bars have denied their patrons have displayed the alleged behaviour or served them in the on-street dining area after 11pm.

Another resident contacted the Leader and claimed the ongoing problems were being caused by patrons from nearby Chapel St club Revolver.

But Ms Flynn was adamant some of the troublemakers came from the two bars, and pleaded for the council to do more cleaning in the area.

“We see people jumping over bollards from Death and Glory, pissing in the laneway, then jumping back over again,” she said.

“It’s the same with Three Monkeys, people exit from a backdoor, pee in the laneway, then go back in.”

“I cannot understand why the council doesn’t come down and disinfect it.”

The council’s chief executive, Jacqui Weatherill, said it had spoken to the two bars about their obligations to keep the area tidy, and issued a noise complaint to one of them.

Ms Weatherill said complaints of anti-social behaviour had been referred to police.

She did not say if the council planned to do any cleaning in the area.

“We care about our residents and will always listen and act quickly to address matters that impact the enjoyment of living in our neighbourhoods,” Ms Weatherill said.

“Our officers will continue to visit Anchor Place regularly and act on any issues that could impact the amenity for local residents and visitors to the area.”

Prahran police Acting Sergeant Alex Jiang said officers patrolled the area on February 21 and fined one person $661 for public drunkenness.
