A pedophile Scoresby dad downloaded and hoarded more than 327,000 “depraved and vile” child abuse material files.
Christopher ‘Chris’ Kyne, 52, pleaded guilty in the County Court on Thursday to a rolled-up possess child abuse material charge.
Police raided Kyne’s Scoresby home where they seized multiple devices on May 13 last year.
Investigators analysed the devices — which included several hard drives and laptops — and discovered 327,701 child abuse material images and videos.
The court heard some of the horrid material depicted female toddlers being sexually penetrated.
One vile video lasted more than five hours, the court was told.
Kyne admitted downloading his vile haul when questioned by police.
“(I’m in custody for) downloading stuff I shouldn’t be downloading …,” Kyne said.
“I did not actively seek to download the (child abuse material) at first … I didn’t actually know what it was … I accidentally downloaded it …
“(I downloaded the child abuse material) because obviously it does something to me … I probably knew I was doing something wrong.”
Kyne, who has no priors, was released but later charged on November 12 last year.
The court heard Kyne downloaded the material over several years from peer-to-peer sites including LimeWire and FrostWire.
Judge Pardeep Tiwana said Kyne committed “gravely serious” offending.
“The sheer volume of the images and videos is staggering,” Judge Tiwana said.
Belinda Franjic, for Kyne, conceded her client’s child abuse material haul was “depraved and vile” and he was “deeply ashamed”.
“It’s certainly a more serious example of the offence,” Ms Franjic said.
“You can give many descriptions, you say ‘vile, depraved’ it’s revolting and extreme,” Judge Tiwana said.
The court heard Kyne worked full-time for a company where he was a “valued member of the team”.
Kyne, who has an ex-wife, previously worked as a carpenter for two decades, the court was told.
Ms Franjic submitted her client’s employer was aware Kyne committed a crime but did not know the nature of the offending.
It was also submitted several people close to Kyne including his adult son were unaware of the offending until only very recently.
“Mr Kyne is obviously very embarrassed about the situation that he has created for himself,” Ms Franjic said.
“He did it (possessed child abuse material) because he was a pedophile,” Judge Tiwana said.
“He meets the criteria for pedophilia … he was obviously sexually aroused … that’s why he had this material …
“There’s the volume of images and video … and if you have a look at the cases I haven’t been able to find one involving so many …
“Lots and lots of victims are involved … the content is depraved … it involves toddlers aged between two and four being penetrated …”
Kyne, who will be made a registered sex offender for eight years, was remanded to be sentenced at a later date.
