The pile of rubbish, on the corner of Fraser and Ridge roads in Mt Dandenong, has continued to grow over the past three weeks in time for the council’s hard-waste collection, which is due to start on March 14.

The council website advises residents rubbish should not be put out more than a week before collection begins.

But a nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said people had been turning up with trailers to pilfer stuff off the pile.

He said he reported the enormous pile to the council but was told nothing could be done.

The man said the rubbish pile had been huge at that site for the past three years.

“I don’t believe (the council) even sent anyone out to look at it, they’ve put it in the “too hard” basket,” he said.

“It’s just ridiculous — I can’t understand why they won’t just send someone out.”

The man said someone had gone through all the rubbish and arranged the furniture to resemble a bedroom, living room and kitchen.

Yarra Ranges Council’s website states residents can put out up to three cubic metres of hard waste — including household items, mattresses and furniture — for its annual hard rubbish collection.

The council has been contacted for comment.
