Mooroolbark’s Douglas O’Connor impersonates twin brother to try to get out of trouble
A Mooroolbark man nabbed drug driving in a car with false plates told police he was his identical twin — and even handed them his brother’s licence. But his charade didn’t last long.

A Mooroolbark drug driver tried to impersonate his twin brother when he was nabbed by police.
Douglas O’Connor, 26, tried to tell officers he was his identical twin and even handed them his brother’s licence when they pulled him over on September 11 last year on the Bass Highway in Kilcunda.
O’Connor’s car bore false registration plates and when police pressed him on his name he eventually fessed up to them that he’d lied about his identity, according to court documents.
They tested him for drugs, revealing he had the drug ice in his system, the documents noted, and checks revealed he didn’t have a licence and methamphetamine, cannabis and GHB were found in his car.
O’Connor pleaded guilty to the drug driving incident as well as other offences at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on April 27.
His other offences included reckless driving charge endangering serious injury in Bayswater on November 26 last year when his car was seen driving at speed against traffic on Scoresby Rd.
He also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving in Ringwood on March 14.

Magistrate David Starvaggi convicted and sentenced O’Connor to 60 days’ jail, with 44 days’ presentence detention declared time served.
He was also suspended from driving for a year.
“But for the plea, I would have imposed 90 days’ jail,” Mr Starvaggi said.
