Mooroolbark College is the latest school to be closed following a positive coronavirus test.
The school’s principal Ann Stratford sent a letter out to the community on Saturday, July 25, advising of the 24-hour closure but letting parents, students and carers know classrooms would be closed until further notice.
This comes as other schools across Melbourne have been closed because of positive cases.
Leader understands most children at the college have been homeschooling, with just VCE students on campus.
In her letter Ms Stratford said: “Our school has been advised of a reported case of coronavirus (COVID-19).”
“This case has been reported to the Department of Education and Training and Department of Health and Human Services, and DHHS is undertaking further investigation,” the letter said.
“As a precautionary measure, Mooroolbark College will be closed for 24 hours on Sunday, July 26 while we await further advice.”
“The school will be closed to all students, staff and member of the community.
“All students are asked to stay at home until further advice is provided.”
She advised anyone who wanted more information to reach out the Department of Education.
“I’m aware that this is a time of heightened anxiety for us all,” the letter said.
This comes as Victoria continues to see huge increases in coronavirus cases with the state total rising by 532 cases overnight – bringing the overall number to 4765.
In Knox cases have risen to 33, Yarra Ranges to 37, and neighbouring municipalities Maroondah at 24, Manningham at 38, Whitehorse at 53, and Monash at 53.
Kilsyth nursing home Kirkbrae Presbytarian Homes has been locked down after a coronavirus outbreak has affected 19 people so far.
