A teen was rushed to hospital after it is believed he was hit by a car on busy stretch of road in Montrose.

Emergency services blocked off sections of Swansea Rd at the intersection of Richards Rd just as paramedics attended to the boy who was lying on the ground after 2.30pm on Sunday, February 7.

A white Ford Territory with a caved-in front section is believed to have hit the youth who was riding a bike.

Paramedics were seen attending to several infants on the footpath, who were believed to be in the Territory when the crash happened.

Dozens of onlookers watched as the youth was loaded onto a gurney and put in an ambulance, as CFA crews from Mt Evelyn, Montrose and as far as Wandin secured the scene. Police were seen interviewing witnesses as cars banked up in each direction of Swansea Rd.

A police spokesman from Lilydale said another collision happened as cars banked up near the scene.

More to come.
