A woman has survived a late-night crash in Montrose after flipping her car, narrowly missing a power pole.

Neighbours flooded out of their houses after hearing the accident about 11.40pm Friday.

Emergency services quickly arrived on the scene to find a car with its airbags deployed having flipped multiple times close to houses.

Eyewitnesses said the woman was allegedly drunk.

Debris was strewn across a 50m stretch of Swansea Rd.

One witness said the woman smelt of alcohol as she was treated by emergency services.

The woman was seen in an ambulance as a police officer surveyed the scene while holding a breathalyser.

A police spokesman confirmed the Lilydale woman did a preliminary breath test at the scene which indicated the presence of alcohol.

A witness said the woman was “lucky to be alive” having just missed a power pole.

“People are always speeding down here, she’s a lucky one, she’s very lucky,’’ the man said.

Another witness said her could hear the sound of the car flipping through the air.

“It made a whoosh sound, nothing like a car hitting a pole, but going through the air,’’ he said.

A further witness said mud was thrown up on a power pole and that she had gone close to being killed.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment and police will await the results of blood tests.

Anyone with further information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
