Staff at a Monbulk butcher have had a lucky escape, after a car smashed through the front window of the store.

The owners of the Monbulk Family Butcher have taken to social media to thank everyone that stopped to offer assistance after the accident at 4.20pm Monday, February 7.

Thankfully nobody was injured.

“Some of us are a bit shaken as there was a close call with one of our staff working just inside the window,” the butcher’s Facebook post said.

“I would like to thank everyone that stopped to help, particularly those from across the road.

“I would particularly like to thank my beautiful daughter Taylor who had come into the shop just prior to the incident.

“Taylor immediately ensured everybody in the shop was OK and safe and proceeded to check on the driver who was uninjured also.”

Taylor even drove the driver of the car home.

More than 100 people have commented on the post, with many praising the kind actions of Taylor.

Speaking to Leader, Taylor said the incident was “a bit of shock”.

“Especially being in there when it happened, it was a bit surreal,” she said.

“I had just arrived there in the afternoon and had just walked in and put my stuff up on the counter, I turned around and got some cheese, said hello to another staff member doing some clean up around the front, and walked up the other end of the store and all of a sudden the car came flying through.

“It didn’t process straight away - we saw the blind fall, then all of a sudden I was like ‘Oh my god there’s a car in here – it didn’t make sense.”

Once Taylor knew everyone in the store was OK, she went to check on the driver, who she said was very panicked.

“She didn’t seem to understand what had happened, she said her brakes had failed,” Taylor said.

But she said the women’s foot was still on the accelerator and the car was still in drive.

She got the woman to put the car into park and took her keys off her.

Taylor said a lot of people came over to make sure she was OK.

“She was very shaken up,” she said.

Taylor said she and her mum then drove the woman, who had a lot of food shopping with her, home.

“I just wanted to know she was home and OK,” Taylor said.

She thanked everyone who came to help after the incident.

A CFA spokesman said two CFA vehicles from the Monbulk brigade attended the incident, along with police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

The butcher store, at 126 Main Rd, has now reopened.

Police have been contacted for comment.
