Maroondah Sports Club in liquidation following administrators meeting

A much-loved Maroondah community venue is officially no more, after its operators plunged into administration earlier this year.

A Maroondah community venue is officially no more in a massive blow to its loyal customers and grassroots sports clubs.

The Maroondah Sports Club has entered liquidation, with a notice posted on ASIC’s website on November 16 following an administrators meeting.

Leader revealed earlier this year that the venue, based at East Ringwood Reserve on Mt Dandenong Rd, entered administration in April following the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

The club’s website and Facebook page have not been updated since a closure notice was posted on March 23.

The club boasted a bistro with pub meals, a TAB and pokies and often hosted live entertainment and functions for up to 150 people.

It was also one of the major sponsors of EFL side East Ringwood, which is based at the reserve.

PCI Partners’ director Stephen Michell was appointed administrator and has subsequently been asked to wind up the business.

Mr Michell previously said he was talking to a number of parties about the future of the club and finding a potential buyer.

“In the short to medium term, one way or the other there will be a sale,” he said in June.

Along with East Ringwood’s EFL team, the club proudly stated on its website it had donated more than $200,000 to the nearby Maroondah Hospital during the venue’s history.

It has also previously supported cricket, tennis, soccer, bowls, athletics and darts clubs in Maroondah, along with other charitable causes.
